DEMOCRACY'S A FINE THING

Democracy’s a bright idea
Which everywhere we should impose
On those who lack a panacea
For ridding them of status quos
Which we have deemed to be tyrannical
No matter how we have to manacle
Those we would help, so they’ll not choose
Whom we’d find difficult to use.
Meanwhile at home whole generations
Would gladly give away their votes
For ipods or for power boats.
And they deserve congratulations-
Without political ennui
Democracy could never be.
